Why convert an Excel spreadsheet to PDF?

Sending an Excel workbook as-is is asking for trouble: formulas recalculated on another machine, columns cut off in print, cells edited by mistake, Excel versions that don't render the same things. Whenever a spreadsheet is meant to be read rather than reworked — a priced quote, a monthly report, a dashboard, an account statement, a schedule — PDF is the answer: it freezes values, layout and pagination, and opens everywhere without a spreadsheet application installed.

PDF also solves the classic overflowing-table headache: in Excel, nobody ever really knows what will come out of the printer. By converting to PDF, you validate the page breaks once and for all and you know your recipient will see the document exactly as you do. It's also the format most administrations and clients expect for numbered supporting documents.

A conversion that respects your print areas

Our conversion relies on the LibreOffice Calc engine, a real spreadsheet application able to interpret your workbooks the way Excel would: print areas defined in the file are respected, gridlines are preserved, and the .xlsx, .xls, .ods and .csv formats are accepted. Each sheet is paginated cleanly, keeping the original column widths and cell formats — numbers, dates, percentages.

Before converting, set your print areas in Excel if the workbook contains working columns you'd rather exclude: the PDF will only be more readable. Once you have the file, the merge tool lets you combine it with other documents (cover letter, appendices), compress shrinks it before sending, and protect adds a password if the figures are confidential. As always on pdfOutils: no account required, no watermark added, and your files are automatically deleted from the server after processing.
