PDF is made for print, not for the web: embedded as-is in a site, it forces visitors to download a file, it's poorly indexed by search engines and unreadable on mobile without zooming. Converting a PDF to HTML turns the document into native web content: the text becomes selectable, copyable and searchable with Ctrl+F, the page displays directly in the browser and can be reused in a CMS, an intranet or a knowledge base.
It's also a great way to recover a PDF's content without any software: open the resulting HTML in your browser and copy the text and images you need. Web editors, records managers and developers gain a simple bridge between PDF archives and the web.
Our conversion extracts the PDF's real text — not a screenshot: every word in the HTML is selectable and indexable. The document's images are embedded directly in the file as data URLs: the resulting HTML is self-contained, a single file to host or send, with no image folder to carry around. The document's structure (pages, text blocks, visuals) is reproduced as closely to the original as possible.
Beware of scanned PDFs: they contain only pictures of text, and the conversion cannot extract words from them. Run them through the ocr tool first to reconstruct the text. And if what you need is an editable document rather than a web page, pdf-to-word is the better fit. As always on pdfOutils: no account required, no watermark added, and your files are automatically deleted from the server after processing.
