This document needs signing or filling in

The print-sign-scan reflex costs ten minutes, degrades the document and produces a file three times heavier. Signing inside the PDF gives a clean result, and the document stays readable, searchable and light.

  • You are asked for a signed document and have no printer.
  • The form has fields but your reader will not let you type in them.
  • You need to check what changed between two contract versions.

Poulpi’s tip

Draw your signature with a finger or the mouse: that is enough for the vast majority of everyday uses. Do not confuse it with a qualified electronic signature, which rests on a certificate issued by a provider and carries different legal weight.

FAQ

Common questions

Does a drawn signature count?

For most everyday exchanges, yes: it stands as an expression of consent, like a scanned signature. For acts requiring a qualified signature, you need a certificate from an accredited provider.

The form will not let me type.

Two cases. Either its fields are locked — flatten the document, then write over it. Or it is not a real form at all, just a picture of one: in that case add text boxes where needed.

How do I stop edits after I sign?

Flatten it: fields and annotations become a fixed part of the page. Then add a permissions password to forbid modification.
